Peterson at times reviews competitive products, especially those that are similar in reach and depth or design to lead me to believe that they are apparent knock offs of our own designs. When we can take our picks, lay the competitive pick over it, scribe the surface and find that the competitive pick precisely matches the reach and depth of the pick, with only some material cut away to make them look a little different, I see an apparent knock off. In this case we took some apparent knock-offs, corrected obvious design flaws, then made a small order of them, (plus other useful picks) and sent them out for reviews from some noted lock pickers.
These won't last long. These NO HANDLE picks offered today are all prototypes. In a while we will doing production runs.
Here are some comments we received back from our BETA reviewers: I welcome YOUR COMMENTS AS WELL!
"After some testing and trying some locks, the full tang government steel is amazing in strength and feedback; I haven't polished any picks because I just wanted to test right out of the package. The improvements on competitor picks adding a bit more "meat" in stress areas of the profiles made a big difference while still being maneuverable in the key way without over setting any pins even in some crazy key bitting in locks in most open keyways and held it's shape in some slightly paracentric keyways on Schlage etc."
"The fact these come without the standard Peterson handles might be a good thing if some are used to the thin picks like the competitors and add dipping or heat shrink tubing this gives customers who prefer thin handles of government steel and the regular handles for those that want comfort and used to the wider handles on the picks. Loving these Shrike Picks if you made all the profiles in these picks it would allow for a personal carry kit without a bulge in the pocket."
"I’ve had a chance to evaluate the Shrike picks. Thank you again for including me in the beta testing phase. I’m impressed with the feedback and overall quality of the picks. I genuinely like the profiles, and they feel solid and well-made. I still prefer the Peterson plastic handles, but the Shrikes are great for their intended purpose."
"Thank you so much for sending me the Shrike set! I had a blast trying out all of the picks and reviewing them. Overall, I’m very happy with the picks! I’ve picked more than 20 different types of locks with them, so they’re doing their job! Two of the picks (3s and 8s) fill a gap in Peterson’s current offering: they’re shortish hooks with thin shafts. Both picks are amazing!"
"Four of the five new profiles (3S, 8S, 10S, and 31S) greatly complement Peterson’s current offerings."
