The well experienced lock picking enthusiast who suggested the contents for the basic, yet comprehensive basic pick set known as “The Mayor” is at it again. Please note that The Mayor is tied for second place of our best selling pick sets! His team did great!
With the help of his team members he has now designed “The Governor”, which is his next step up and is designed for more experienced lock pickers who want to succeed at more challenging locks.
The set contents (see the contents list after the product picture) indicates his belief in having a wide array of tension tools (I agree with him, we need a choice based on the many locks out there), plus a selection of GSP picks in .025, .018 and .015: all hooks.
I like his choice's as I tend to use hook picks as well! His adding optional ultra-thin .018 and .015 to his favorite 0.25 GSP hook picks allows him to choose the thickest (therefore strongest) pick that operate freely in his targeted key-way. Is he scientific in his approach or what?
His selected picks and tension tools all fit nicely in our 3.75 inch wide nylon case.
If you purchased his selected items individually the retail would be $143.00. But as it is cheaper for us to build a group of pick sets all at one time compared to filling an order of individual items residing in drawer after drawer, we pass that savings on to you! Plus it is such a great set, we even gave you an extra 4 bucks off!
This excellent set only costs you $125.00. That saves you $18.00!
A note of thanks is due to this group for "another well done job" for you, the end users of this set. The effort they put out, for free, insure a selection of tools that you know was developed by your experienced peers.

I haven't been picking for very long, but I've used a lot of different brands of picks.. including the "higher end" of some of said brands. While all of these other brands are certainly good, Peterson is my new favorite.
From the tension tools to the picks themselves, these tools scream quality. They're finished well, free of defects that affect functionality (my prybars all had burrs in one spot; but they aren't sharp and would be super easy to remove, so not a big deal at all!), and feel great to use.
As for the picks: the feedback is incredibly impressive. Using these picks I've been able to tell where I am inside a lock with no problem whatsoever. It's hard to believe that between the handles and quality of materials that feedback is this good.. but it is.
As for this set itself.. I like it so much I'm ordering a second one to put up! Along with a new .015" Gem, and a Gem in .025" to top it off.
A word from the now-wiser-than-before, though: do be easy with the .015" Gem; while the design of these picks is fantastic, it is very easy to bind up a Gem inside of a keyway on warding if you aren't careful.. and it doesn't take much to bend one. I've already found this out the hard way. But, this is entirely my fault and I learned from it, so no harm no foul on Peterson's part, obviously. (My pick is still functional, don't misunderstand.. I'm just picky and want it in pristine shape when I'm in a keyway that calls for .015". So now I'll have a spare!)
